Cell radiation

Motorola Droid, Blackberry Bold 9700, HTC Magic and LG Chocolate Touch, the latest and greatest new mobile phones in 2010 have high marks from tech experts for their performance and features but also these models are in the top of  the radiation charts (not said in the ads). EWG has found that all four phones’ emissions are pushing the edge of radiofrequency radiation safety limits set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Levels of radiation vary , from 0 .3 to 1.6, the legal limit, measured in watts per kilogram of body weight.
Fortunately for the 2010 three new phones Motorola Brute i680, Samsung Mythic, and Pantech Impact  rank among the lowest-emission devices on the market.
The Specific Absorption Rates (SAR) is a measure of how much radiation is absorbed by the body when the phone is sending a signal to the network.
The list below shows emissions levels of new phones available in 2010 from lowest to highest radiation :

Neither manufacturers nor sellers are required to disclose mobile phone radiation information at their sales point.

It is not easy to EWG obtain the data on cell phone radiation. Some mobile phone manufacturers publish online user’s manuals with emissions output, expressed as the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), . For other models they have to find the code number known as the FCC ID, generally embedded inside the phone, near the battery. With this number they research on the FCC online database.
If you want to find out the radiation of your mobile have a look at EWG website.

Mobile phones emit radiofrequency radiation to send and receive voice and text messages. Some studies suggest this radiation may increase risks for brain
and salivary gland cancer. While  scientists around the world are making studies to resolve the many uncertainties,  it is better
to use mobile phone with low emissions and follow these tips to minimize radiation exposure (according to EWG) in the meantime.
1. Get a low-radation phone.
Time to change your mobile phone? Replace it with one that emits the lowest radiation and fulfill your needs.
2. Use speakers or headset
Headsets emit much less radiation than phones. Some wireless headsets emit continuous low-level radiation, so when you are not on a call take them off your ear. Using your phone in speaker mode also reduces radiation to the head.
3. Listen more, talk less.
Your phone emits radiation when you talk or text, but not when you’re receiving messages. Listening more and talking less reduces your exposures.
4. Hold your mobile away from your body.
Hold the phone away from your torso when you’re talking (with headset or speaker), not against your ear. Put it in a place where soft body tissues absorb radiation.
5. Prefer texting than talking.
Phones use less power (less radiation) to send text than voice. And unlike when you speak with the phone at your ear, texting keeps radiation away from your head.
6. Stay off the mobile while signal is poor.
Make and answer calls when your phone has a strong signal. Fewer signal bars on your phone means that it emits more radiation to get the signal to the tower.
7. Limit children’s phone use.
Young children’s brains absorb twice the cell phone radiation as an adult’s. Limits children’s phone use, such as for emergency situations only.
8. Skip the “Radiation shield”
Radiation shields such as keypad covers reduce the connection quality and force the phone to transmit at a higher power with higher radiation.
